Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies and are Part C of Original Medicare. These plans can include prescription drug coverage along with extra benefits related to hearing, vision, dental, and wellness. Medicare Advantage plans include Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO), Private Fee-for-Service plans (PFFS) and Special Needs Plans (SNP).
To join a Medicare Advantage plan, you must have Medicare Part A and Part B. You will continue to pay your monthly Medicare Part B premium to Medicare, and you may also have to see doctors that belong to the plan network or go to certain hospitals for services. With an Advantage plan you would use the health insurance card that you get from the plan for your healthcare services instead of your Original Medicare card.
